About

Hello!

We are Cabal Entertainment Software, a small independent game development studio making games for the iPhone, iPad, and other platforms we find interesting. Cabal was started by a few friends in 2005 but we realized that our plans were not quite sane! Today, we are a small independent studio making games, having fun and learning how to make our company and the way we do business with others much more personal.

My name is Danien Chee and  I used to work at Pandemic Studios and Black Isle Studios, the role playing games division of Interplay Entertainment Corp, doing mainly programming. I’ve worked on MercenariesBaldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II, the Icewind Dale series, and Star Trek: Klingon Academy for PC, Microsoft Xbox, and Sony Playstation 2. Nowadays, I also handle production and design while figuring out how I can get more snowboarding in my life.

Jason Spykerman is our Art Director, formerly from Bioware. He’s worked on Dragon Age: OriginsMass EffectJade EmpireStar Wars: Knights of the Old RepublicNeverwinter Nights, and Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Baal. Jason’s a tabletop wargamer, paint-baller, and fellow metal-head.

Erwin Zee, another Cabal co-founder, handles the finance and accounting and also acts as a sounding board for business advice. He also rolls up his sleeves to  help with production management and game testing. He hates it when I make fun of Man Utd. Also a metal-head.

We work with freelance developers and other studios in the development community frequently.

What Other People Say

I did my Masters Thesis at Cabal Entertainment Software during 2010: researching and implementing a parallel solution for their game-framework … Doing this project at Cabal was great fun and gave me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge in my favorite topic. Although I did a lot of my research independently, I got good support from creative and motivating co-workers. While being small, Cabal is an ambitious company which encourages experimentation with new technology and iteration of ideas in order to build something unique.”

- Theodor Zettersten, Software Engineer (Zen Framework, 2010)

“As an artist, I find it interesting to take on a new graphic style that I have yet to explore previously and Jason and Danien were patient and helpful in giving us directions and constructive feedback. They are also experienced and receptive to suggestions made by the artists.”

Darius Cheong, Artist (Celestial Rabbit, 2011)

“Working on Celestial Rabbit with you guys in Jan has been a fun and fulfilling experience all in all. Fun because I get to do something new and meet great people who are driven in their work as well! You guys are very supportive and work side by side with us resulting in good communication and easier problem solving. Fulfilling for I get to see the results of my efforts put into the project.”
