Resume and Portfolio Submission Tips
All job applications must include a cover letter and a resume.
Artists and designers MUST include a portfolio, demo reel, or sample work.
Programmers should submit sample code written in the programming language for the desired position.
Cover Letter
In one page, tell us why you are the best person for the job and your goals - this should give us an idea of what you are passionate about, your personality, communication skills, and where you see your future with the company. Format your letter and resume in a simple, easy-to-read layout, and pay particular attention to details such as spelling and grammar. Show us your creativity and talent in your portfolio, not in your formatting. For email submissions, use Microsoft Word, plain text, PDF, or HTML document formats.
Resume/CV
Your resume is an organized list of your skills and experience. Format your resume for the position you are applying for, such as highlighting the most relevant information by listing them first.
Your resume should be no longer than two pages and includes the following:
- Contact information: your full name, address, email address, and telephone number
- Objective: the position you are applying for and your goals
- Work experience: job titles, employment dates, description of your responsibilities
- Skills: e.g., 3D modeling in Max, C++ programming
- Education: degrees, diplomas, certificates, training
- Other skills: other relevant skills and personal notes
- References: at least two or three recent references we can contact
Artists
Applications for all art positions must be accompanied by a relevant portfolio or demo reel demonstrating your abilities for the position. Make sure that your portfolio or demo reel highlights the skills that are most relevant to the position you are applying for. Each piece should be accompanied by a short description, including which parts you were responsible for.
We prefer online or downloadable portfolios and demo reels. For videos, avi or mov formats, use a popular codec such as mpg, xvid, or divx and indicate this where appropriate. Ensure that all submitted pieces are in sufficient quality and resolution for us to properly evaluate your abilities.
If you have 2D drawings and paintings you wish to submit, consider scanning them into bitmaps (png, tif, jpg and other common image formats preferred) and putting them online or on a CD.
Designers
For design positions, submit samples relevant to the position you are applying for, such as mods, maps and levels, games, and writing samples. For mods, make sure all files and folders are set up so they can be viewed and run as easily as possible - this reflects on your ability to provide the end-user with a great experience.
HINT: Even if you do not have professional design experience, having a demo reel and sample work on mods demonstrates passion and initiative.
Programmers
You are encouraged to include relevant sample code that demonstrate your abilities, programming and software engineering knowledge, and coding style. Make sure the sample code is written in the programming/scripting languages applicable for the position.
Sending Materials
- Clearly label all materials with your name, date, and the position you are applying for. Please avoid VHS tapes.
- Any materials sent to us will not be returned; do not send originals.
